Unfortunately, Joseph Adler has had to cancel his presentation due to a family emergency.
We are very fortunate to have in his place Onur Sakarya, Ph.D., a Senior Scientist at Life Technologies speaking on RNA-Seq techniques utilizing next generation technologies. Life Technologies is the developer of the SOLiD next generation sequencing system and QDot nanocrystal technology which is driving the development of Single Molecule Real-Time sequencing at Life Technologies.
Dr. Sakarya completed his graduate studies in computer science and molecular biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is an alumnus of the Kosik Lab where his research focused on sequence alignment, comparative genomics and the evolution of scaffolding systems. He is currently researching and developing tools and software for high throughput, short read RNA sequencing.
This will be our second forum in a row dealing with the extremely fast growing and exciting field of Next Generation Sequencing. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the field. Of course, this will also be the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in Bioinformatics in the Bay Area to meet and network with like minded folks.
Agenda:
7:00-7:10 - Networking
7:10-7:20 - Introduction and Sponsor - Life Technologies
7:20-7:50 - Onur Sakarya presents "Exploring the RNA World with Next Generation Sequencing"
7:50-8:15 - Break/Discussion
8:15-9:00 - Lightning talks
We will also have several lightning talks at this forum.
Special thanks go out to our sponsor, Life Technologies who are providing the facilities, snacks and drinks.
