Oscar Alvizo from Codexis will present an overview of computational protein design (CPD), a discipline of bioinformatics which uses molecular simulations to design proteins with new and improved functions. For more details, here is a paper from Oscar.
In addition to working for one of the top enzyme evolution companies in the world, Oscar is an alumnus of the Stephen L Mayo Lab at Cal Tech. Mayo is a pioneer in the field of CPD and a founder of Molecular Simulations Inc. which produced very popular molecular modeling software now part of the Accelrys product line.
Directions:
Enter the main entrance of Genentech Hall. The door will be locked but there is a call button to a security guy just inside that can buzz people in to sign in with him. This door is the black arrow on the north side of Genentech Hall in this map The black arrow pointing to the entrance directly into Byers Hall at the corner of 16th and 4th Streets is no longer a public entrance. We will be in Byers Hall Room 212.
Agenda:
4:00-4:30 - Networking
4:30-5:00 - Dr. Alvizo presents "Computational Protein Design"
5:00-5:15 - Break/Discussion
5:15-6:00 - Lightning talks
We will have lightning talks at this forum, so please bring a brief (10 minute) presentation on a topic that you want to share with the group. We should have time for as many as 4 talks, so let Doug know if you are planning on presenting one. Lightning talk slots will be given on a first requested basis. Powerpoint slides on a thumb drive to accompany your talk are optional.
Thanks
Hope to see you all there!
