What: May Forum: Eric Olivares presents - SEQanswers online community for Next Gen Sequencing
When: Wednesday, May 25, 2011 7-9 PM
Where: Pacific BioSciences Campus, Menlo Park
Why: Next Gen Sequencing is a powerful and growing force in biology and SEQanswers is the go-to site for answers and opinions on software and technologies.
Cost: Free! Thanks to our Sponsor - Pacific BioSciences
Eric Olivares: Is a geneticist and molecular biologist with strong interests in bioinformatics and Next Gen sequencing. His education includes both B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Genetics. Since completing his graduate work in 2003, he has been working on molecular biology problems in industry. When it became apparent that this line of work did not allow much time for broad scientific discussion nor networking with those outside his company, he founded SEQanswers as an information resource and user-driven community focused on all aspects of Next Gen genomics. SEQanswers has become a leading site for Next Gen sequencing technology discussion and education. The site attempts to cater to everyone, regardless of scientific background or knowledge.
Eric is currently researching Next Gen sequencing techniques at Pacific Biosciences (2008 to present). Previously, he worked at Invitrogen/Life Technologies in a Next Gen sequencing product development role.
Agenda:
7:00-7:10 - Networking
7:10-7:20 - A word from our sponsor: Pacific Biosciences
7:20-8:00 - Dr. Olivares presents "SEQanswers online community for Next Gen Sequencing"
8:00-8:15 - Break/Discussion
8:15-9:00 - Lightning talks
We will have lightning talks at this forum, so please bring a brief (10 minute) presentation on a topic that you want to share with the group. We should have time for as many as 4 talks, so let Doug know if you are planning on presenting one. Lightning talk slots will be given on a first requested basis. Powerpoint slides on a thumb drive to accompany your talk are optional.
Blogging is allowed at this event. Please see the BayBIFX blog policy for more details.
Thanks
Hope to see you all there!
