Ruchira Datta from The Berkeley Phylogenomics Group will present an overview of phylogenomics, a discipline of bioinformatics which uses multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic trees to predict the functions of genes. For more details, here is a paper from Ruchira on the Phylofacts Orthology Group Prediction web server (PHOG) a novel algorithm in phylogenomics which she helped develop.
In addition to her work on PHOG, Doctor Datta holds a PhD in Mathematics, studying game theory and has worked as a software engineer at Google.

We should have time for as many as 4 talks, so let Doug know if you are planning on presenting one. Lightning talk slots will be given on a first requested basis. Powerpoint slides on a thumb drive to accompany your talk are optional.
